Most successful Bankstown Bites ever
More than 35 000 people from all over Sydney turned out for a fantastic day of food and fun at the Bankstown City Council’s annual food festival, Bankstown Bites, last Saturday, 25 July.
Perfect weather, enticing Discovery Food Tours and live cooking demonstrations all combined to make for the most successful Bankstown Bites ever.
Celebrity Chef, Fast Ed (Ed Halmagyi) whipped up a feast of culinary delights on stage at various times throughout the day and offered tasting samples to audience members for their enjoyment.
Festival attendees watched on as Bankstown Sports Club chef, Tony Cheyna joined Fast Ed and then later cooked a range of his own treats for all to sample. Budding chef, Hayden Holland also worked the stage with Fast Ed, baking his Cook With Ed competition winning recipe for passionfruit slice.
Bankstown Council’s annual food festival, Bankstown Bites is one of Sydney’s most authentic and diverse food festivals. Through its focus on Asian, European and Middle Eastern cuisine, the festival showcased Bankstown’s great cultural and linguistic diversity, and not to mention the CBD’s 330 food businesses.
The main catch of the day was the ever popular Discovery Food Tours. Each of the seven tours- including Sweet Treats, European Delights, Asian Explorer and Treats from the Middle East- journeyed through a series of food businesses around Bankstown.
Debuting this year for the first time was the Rice and Roll Discovery Food Tour. This tour not only offered attendees insider information about where and how to source quality Asian ingredients but tour participants also got to make their own rice paper rolls following a cooking lesson.
Other festival features included a unique blend of international food stalls, roving entertainment, face painting, cake decorating competitions, Bollywood and salsa dancers, puppet shows, the environmentally sustainable Backyard Bites stand and much more.
Recipes cooked by Fast Ed and Tony Chayna on the day are available
