Notes & tips
You can make these eggs up to 1 day ahead.
Powdered food colouring is available from specialty stores. If it's unavailable, you can substitute liquid food colouring, although the colour may be less intense.
Silver leaf is available from art supply stores and specialty stores. These eggs are edible if they're stored in the fridge.

Paint eggs for Easter
Blowing our the yolks
Step 1. Wash egg and, after drying it, hold it in your hand. Taking a long needle, gently pierce a small hole in the top of the egg, then follow suit by piecing a larger hole in the bottom - the top hold should be no larger than 2mm in diameter while the bottom hole can be slightly larger.
Step 2. Take the needle and poke it into the egg, swishing it around for about a minute - this is to break up the yolk. Take the egg and place your mouth over one end of the egg and blow the contents into a bowl.
Step 3. Rinse the empty shell. Dry on a paper towel.
Decorating with paint
Water colours are fine, just use a small amount of water so the paint remains thick. You can get the kids to rest the egg shell on an empty carton, gently holding the top of the shell. Have fun with stripes, dots and zig zag lines.
